Memory Work: An Invaluable Workshop Experience

You may wonder: if you can’t remember where you left your glasses, how can you recall an event that happened forty years ago? Don’t worry, the memories are still there!

The workshop will offer a variety of engaging activities: part lecture, part individual and several group exercises. Participants will record their recollections in memory logs to preserve the precious memories they regain.

Topics

This workshop focuses on recovering “lost” memories. Seniors will focus on near forgotten life events, and learn easy, step-by-step methods to regain the details of lived experiences. Participants will learn to:

  • Relieve anxiety which blocks memory function
  • Use recommendations on how to maintain cognitive vitality, including memory even into the nineties and beyond (offered by the National Institute on Aging and the International Longevity Center)
  • Use retrieval clues such as association cues, scenario cues, chronological cues, smell cues and people cues to recall details of experiences.
