A Unique Experience of Exploration and Self-Discovery
Creating a book is a special endeavor, one that provides unique opportunities for reflection and self-discovery. Our workshops span the diverse topics of selecting the contents of a memoir or family history book and the technical aspects of creating the book.
Why attend a workshop? Because you don't have to go it alone. Join a friendly group of fellow authors and collaborate. We'll demonstrate how to brainstorm new ideas, how to do “memory work” to recollect the past with greater accuracy, how to reflect upon the meaning of your experiences and how to tell stories well.
Presenters Available for Organizations
We offer workshops at senior centers, libraries, historical societies, active-living and retirement communities, and other forums. The four workshops described here are our most popular offerings.
Our introductory workshop, Write Your Memoir, is available in several formats.
- Overview seminar: a one-time, two-hour session
- Memoir Planning: 2 sessions with Activity Book
- Audio Memories: 3 sessions with Memory Book and audio CD
These 2,4,6,and 8-week mini-courses parallel our Complete Author's Program. Each enrolled participant receives our illustrated Author's Guide. Activities include brainstorming exercises, memory work, photo sorting and selection, and storytelling. The course culminates in the opportunity to complete a printed memoir or family history book with the stories and materials that have been generated.
Memory Book with audio CD: a hands-on project created in the course of the Audio Memories workshop
